Clay

Enrichment spreadsheet combining over 150 data vendors and AI agents to build custom prospect lists

CRM & sales

Overview

Clay is an augmented spreadsheet for prospect list building: you import or search for accounts and contacts, then enrich each row via over 150 data vendors (emails, phone, headcount, tech stack, hiring signals), paying only the vendor that returns data. Claygent, its AI web research agent, generates custom data points, and a native sequencer lets you send messages. The free plan includes 6,000 actions per year and unlimited seats. Launch starts at $54/month on annual commitment (180,000 actions/year) or $167/month monthly; Growth starts at $185/month annual (480,000 actions) or $446/month monthly; Enterprise is on quote.

Clay's interface and docs are English-only, with no French localization. The editor documents security practices on a dedicated page but does not highlight European hosting, meriting review if you process large European contact lists at scale. Clay exposes HTTP APIs from Growth, an MCP server and connectors to Salesforce, HubSpot, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Smartlead or Lemlist. The main limit is the credit model: each enrichment consumes actions and data credits, so real cost depends on volume processed and can drift fast if tables are not managed. Onboarding also demands genuine sales ops thinking; the tool is powerful but far from turnkey.

Our verdict

Best for SMEs and agencies building prospect files in-house and wanting data coverage well beyond a single vendor, with a free plan sufficient for testing. Not for you if no one on the team is comfortable with spreadsheets, formulas and English: Clay is configured, not consumed off-the-shelf, and credits burn fast.
