Cline

Cline is an open-source coding agent that installs as a VS Code extension, in CLI or via JetBrains (Enterprise offer). It reads and modifies project files directly, runs terminal commands, fills out forms and navigates an embedded browser to test code it just wrote, with human validation at each sensitive step. The tool is model-agnostic: it works with Claude, GPT, Gemini or local models via Ollama, user's choice. The key point of its pricing, claimed by the editor themselves: Cline charges no subscription. Base usage is free and open-source, only AI inference consumed is paid, either via your own API keys (BYOK), or via Cline's integrated provider billed on usage. An Enterprise offer with SSO and centralized billing is available on request for teams.

The Cline website and documentation are in English only, without French interface or support. The editor makes no GDPR certification or EU data hosting commitment; as code transits through model providers chosen by the user, compliance mostly depends on the selected AI provider. An SDK (@cline/sdk) and developer documentation allow building agents and integrations around the same engine, with an MCP server marketplace to connect GitHub, Ollama or other tools. The practical limit is budgetary: without a subscription cap, the inference bill can climb fast on a large project or with a premium model, and the absence of a fixed price makes monthly budget hard to predict for an SME.
