Connected Papers
Create visual graphs of similarity between scientific papers to map the state of the art and related work
Overview
Connected Papers generates, from a single starting paper, an interactive visual graph of the most similar works (based on co-citations and bibliographic coupling via Semantic Scholar). The tool automatically identifies foundational prior works and recent derivatives, letting you position a paper within its research field at a glance.
The free version allows 5 graphs per month with full features. The $5/month Academic plan (billed quarterly) offers unlimited graphs for personal and academic use. The Business plan is $15/month. Institutional plans and a fellowship program for resource-constrained researchers are available. Interface is English only.
Our verdict
Best for PhD students and researchers starting a literature review who want to quickly visualize the landscape of a topic from a key paper. Not for you if you need to manage many projects simultaneously or extract data: Research Rabbit with Zotero sync is better suited.
