Sora is OpenAI's video generator, accessible via ChatGPT Plus subscriptions (20$/month, 50 videos/month) and Pro (200$/month, 500 videos/month). The tool shines through its simplicity of use and direct integration into the ChatGPT ecosystem, no additional tool to configure. Generating realistic videos from text prompt is intuitive.

Since January 2026, free access has been discontinued. The Sora API allows developers to integrate video generation into applications (~0.10-0.50$/second). Note: Sora 2 API is scheduled to sunset in September 2026, raising questions about service durability for technical integrations.

Our verdict

Sora suits users already subscribed to ChatGPT Plus who want to add video without changing tools. Quality is good but not the best on the market against Kling or Runway. Uncertainty about the API service in 2026 makes it risky for critical integrations.
