Square, a Block subsidiary, offers in France a complete payments ecosystem: POS software, terminals, online store, invoicing, and team management. Square Point of Sale is free and the editor is paid through commission, so the bill has two independent parts: the optional software subscriptions and the commission on each payment taken. In person the rate is 1.65% per transaction for cards issued in the EEE, with a 1.5% surcharge for cards outside the EEE. Online it moves to 1.4% plus EUR 0.25 per transaction for EEE cards, and manual entry is charged at 2%. Add-on subscriptions enrich the free base: Square for Restaurants Plus at EUR 59 net/month per location, Square Invoices Plus at EUR 20/month, kitchen display at EUR 15/month, and online store from EUR 10/month. Square makes available a "Square and French VAT Anti-Fraud Law" attestation to download, complete, and keep in your records, and states it passed successfully a pre-audit with an accredited French certifying body, with an official attestation letter in hand. French help documentation details the Z report and obligations under Article 88 of the 2016 Finance Law. All of that matters only if you take payments in France: the rates and the attestation quoted here are the French ones, and a buyer established elsewhere skips this paragraph. Square publishes a developer API and an app marketplace with e-commerce connectors (WooCommerce, Wix) and accounting connectors (Commerce Sync to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct). The limitations: Square relies on an attestation and pre-audit rather than an NF525 certificate from AFNOR or the LNE, worth validating with your accountant before you rely on it in France, and its French integration ecosystem is thinner than dedicated local editors.
