Sweep is an AI agent that connects to a GitHub repository and automatically transforms issues written in natural language into functional pull requests. It understands project structure, identifies files to modify, writes code, runs tests, and opens a PR with a summary of changes. The tool is particularly useful for delegating repetitive tasks: minor bug fixes, refactoring, test additions, all without interrupting team workflow.

Sweep is available open source on GitHub for public projects. For private repositories, paid plans start around $120/month depending on premium ticket volume. The tool works only with GitHub (not GitLab or Bitbucket) and requires issues to be written in English with enough precision to guide the agent.

Our verdict

Best for development teams with a backlog of small tickets who want to automate them gradually without changing tools: Sweep integrates directly into existing GitHub workflow. Not ideal if you need complex tasks requiring deep functional understanding, or if you work on GitLab or Bitbucket; the ecosystem is limited to GitHub.
