Xero
Online accounting software for freelancers and small businesses: invoicing, bank reconciliation and vendor bill tracking
Overview
Xero is online accounting software built for freelancers and small businesses: quote and invoice creation, online collection, vendor bill entry and tracking, automated bank reconciliation, document capture and real-time financial reports. The international edition displays three monthly formulas: Starter at $29 per month (limited to 20 customer invoices and 5 vendor bills), Standard at $50 per month (unlimited invoices, custom dashboards, 60-day cash flow forecast) and Premium at $75 per month (multi-currency, ratio analysis, 180-day forecast). An 80% discount on the first three months is displayed on the pricing page, bringing Starter to $5.80 per month over that period, and the subscription is cancellable with one month's notice.
Xero offers neither interface nor official site in French: the product, documentation and support remain in English, and the publisher does not operate a localized edition for France, ruling out native French VAT handling or production of a FEC. The tool thus targets French-speaking structures whose accounting is kept overseas or whose accountant works in English. A documented public API and a marketplace of several hundred applications let you connect bank, payroll, e-commerce or expense tracking. The caps on the Starter plan (20 customer invoices, 5 vendor bills per month) are reached quickly once activity truly runs, pushing rapidly to Standard, significantly more expensive.
Our verdict
Best for freelancers and small structures comfortable in English who want complete, readable online accounting well connected to their bank and online shop. Not for you if you keep French accounting: lack of localization, French VAT and FEC means doubling the tool with a local solution, and the entry plan caps at 20 invoices per month.
