Zed

Zed is a code editor designed for speed (GPU-accelerated rendering, near-instant startup) and real-time collaboration like Google Docs, with an integrated AI agent capable of proposing multi-file edits and generating commit messages. The Personal plan is free for life and includes 2,000 editing predictions accepted per month, as well as unlimited usage if the user provides their own model API keys or connects an external agent via the ACP protocol. The Pro plan costs $10/month (two-week free trial with $20 credits), lifts the predictions limit and includes $5 in token credits per month, beyond that billed at usage. The Business plan costs $30 per seat per month, adds AI model policies at the organization level and data governance controls.

Zed offers no French interface: the website and editor are exclusively in English, with no language selector. The editor makes no GDPR certification or EU hosting promise. Zed does not offer a public API intended for third-party integration: its extension points are an extension system for adding languages and themes, native Git support (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) and the ACP protocol to hook external AI agents. The main limit is the youth of the extension ecosystem compared to VS Code: some specialized languages or tools remain less well covered, and usage-based billing beyond the $5 credits included in the Pro plan can surprise with large generation volumes.
