Help Scout
Shared inbox and help center for support teams who want to handle email, chat and messaging without complexity
Overview
Help Scout groups requests arriving via email, live chat, Instagram and Messenger in a shared inbox, with a public article base (Docs) and a Beacon widget to embed on your site. The free plan accepts 5 users, one inbox and one Docs site. Beyond that, the grid displayed by the publisher is $25 per user per month for Standard, $45 for Plus which adds advanced workflows and Salesforce, Jira and HubSpot connectors, and $75 for Pro which opens SAML SSO, unlimited workflows and dedicated support. Annual billing removes roughly 16%, roughly translating to 21, 38 and 63 $ per user per month. The AI AI Answers block is billed separately, $0.75 per resolution, with three months of trial in unlimited resolutions. All paid plans open fifteen days of trial without a credit card.
There is no French interface or official site: the app, help articles and support remain in English, which assumes a team comfortable with the language. On compliance, Help Scout publishes a signable data processing addendum online, declares itself subject to European and UK GDPR, warns ten days before any subprocessor change and has its code and systems audited every year; however, the publisher does not announce dedicated hosting in Europe. The developer side is complete: Inbox API, Docs API, Chat API, webhooks and custom applications displayed in the agent sidebar. The limits come down to the rest: billing per seat grows fast as support expands, AI is paid per resolution on top of subscription, and reporting remains more limited than on contact center platforms.
Our verdict
Best for SMBs and freelancers who want clean, fast email and chat support, easy to set up, with a genuinely usable free plan for five people. Not for you if your team works poorly in English, since nothing is translated, or if support already has many agents: billing per seat plus AI per resolution quickly adds up.
