Hemingway Editor is a readability editor that highlights in color sentences that are too long or complex, passive voice, superfluous adverbs, and formulations that could be simplified, with an overall readability score inspired by the journalistic style of its namesake. The web version remains freely usable for basic text analysis functions. The Hemingway Editor Plus subscription ($10/month, or $100/year, approximately $8.33/month) adds AI-generated suggestions, a separate draft mode from edit mode, and import/export of Word (.docx), Markdown, and HTML files, with exported Word documents remaining usable afterward in Google Docs or Apple Pages.
The interface and suggestions of Hemingway Editor are only in English, with no French version announced by the publisher: the tool analyzes readability according to rules specific to the English language (sentence length, passive voice, adverbs) that have no direct equivalent for French text, and should therefore not be used to correct French. No public API for developers is documented, and the tool does not offer direct integration with a CMS like WordPress beyond exporting files to compatible applications.
